Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, NM

The hot sun woke us up and got us going early. We were heading to the Tent Rocks Park. I had seen pictures of this park in a magazine and right away knew we had to go there. I’ve never seen anything like this!

I could barely contain myself while we made breakfast in the parking lot. This is why I usually ask Carrie to lead on the trail. Not because she is slower (far from it) but because I need her to help me slow down and enjoy the hike.

The hiking was pretty easy and more than worth the breathtaking scenery. We wound our way through a narrow slot canyon and up to an amazing overlook, passing interesting rock formations along the way. We met many different families and couples on our hike, don’t expect any solitude. But all in all, a great time, so very interesting!

We also noticed that some of our friends from Marco Islands’ SSEC must operate this park!

After lunch we made our way to Albuquerque. They have a neat little “old” downtown that we checked out. It was fun just to take in the atmosphere and look at all the shops.

We then headed out of town and found a little park off of Route 66 to cook up some dinner. After saying “Hi” to some Fire Rescue Officers we made our way to another Walmart near the New Mexico / Arizona border.
